Private Functions

I have already recommended the Charterhouse to a number of people and am almost embarrassed by the pleasant messages we have received from our guests and members.

Edward Windsor Clive, St. Catherine’s Lodge No. 3743

The Charterhouse provides an extraordinary range of rooms for a selected number of receptions, dinners and other private functions each year in one of the most interesting buildings in London.

Your guests will experience a place where some of the definitive events in British history have taken place. Each event is unique and we strongly recommend that you contact Lara Ramsden on 020 3817 4173 or by email to discuss your ideas or arrange a visit to the Charterhouse.

Each of these areas can be used separately or in combination.

The Old Library

Capacity: 70 seated or 100 standing

This stately room is ideal for meetings. It also works wonderfully for dinners and receptions. With scars from the Blitz the Old Library highlights the history of the Charterhouse. Portraits of Archbishops and Bishops of London dating back to the 18th century line the walls and lend a tranquil and dignified ambience for any occasion.

The Great Hall

Capacity: 100 seated

A stunning and grand room, the Great Hall is perfect for formal dinners and receptions. With Medieval doorways and windows one can immediately feel the legacy of the Charterhouse upon entering.

The Norfolk Cloister

Capacity: 80 seated

A stunning 14th century cloister, boasting original doorways leading into monks’ cells dating back to 1371. The ‘offside’ rule in football can claim its origins in this room, as the boys of Charterhouse School were the first to implement it in this space. With its serene atmosphere the cloister is ideal for corporate events, dinners and wine tastings.

The Great Chamber

Capacity: 120 seated

Queen Elizabeth and James I both held court in this incredible chamber. A wonderful space for larger meetings, lectures, and presentations. This grand room is also magnificent for formal dinners, and receptions.

The Governors’ Room

Capacity: 25 seated and 50 standing

A smaller space suited well to meetings, dinners, and breakout sessions from larger meetings. With elegant wood panelling and prints of the Charterhouse adorning the walls, this space is an excellent setting for smaller gatherings. There are other rooms available for smaller breakout sessions subject to availability.

Wedding Blessings at the Charterhouse Chapel

Capacity: 200

Beautiful, and light filled, the chapel is fascinating and impressive to all who enter. With Jacobean carvings throughout, and The Charterhouse’s founder Thomas Sutton’s tomb, the chapel is full of historical architectural detail. At the Charterhouse Chapel we practise a policy of inclusiveness with our wedding blessings.
